A new year, a new blog...

5 January 2012, New work, Would you like to leave a comment?

I had originally planned to start a blog when I re-launched my website; so almost a year on and I’m now ready to go – not too bad.

I have been working with wood in varying capacities for many years and believe I have some knowledge/skills that would be of interest or perhaps I can share. Initially I’m going to focus on all things woodturning as well as my other interests; the arts and woodcraft; sustainability and the environment; cycling. Scrub the last entry must stay focussed! But I hope my blog will find its own course as discussions develop.

When being commissioned to produce pieces, a topic always raised is what wood to use. In addition to appearance different wood types can have very different characteristics that should be considered when turning. To highlight this I’m starting my blog with a post covering some of the wood types I commonly use.

If there are any burning issues or questions you would like to discuss then drop me an email or drop by my blog and add your thoughts.

On a final note, I'd like to mention a little about the website. Some of you may be surprised to see that as well as being so committed to wood crafts, I am also very good at web design.. this is not quite the case! I am lucky to be part of a very creative family and am in constant debt to my brother who built and maintains my site - thanks Dan!
