Hand, made, spalted, beech, wooden, bowl

It’s great to be working with Tom again and I’m excited to be involved with his new restaurant. I’ve been commissioned to make a range of bowls, serving boards and pepper mills - all turned from locally sourced spalted beech.

His pepper mills are quite different to my standard design, measuring just 12cm tall. I’ve had to make alterations within the body of each mill, so that the Crushgrind mechanism will fit - the walnut inlay could not have been included. Their appearance is certainly dramatic and some of the best spalted beech I’ve seen...

Here’s the bowls I’ve made, which will be used for serving bread. I’ve turned them quite thin for a delicate look and kept them stylish too. Each one measures 20cm across and is coated with food safe mineral oil…

I’m working on his cheese boards at the moment and there’s some shelves to make as well. Updates will be posted soon…
