Wigton's spring fling

image.jpeg

This was probably my favourite event last year and its great to be invited back!

Each year, the shops and stores in my local hometown of Wigton offer up their window space to local artists and craftspeople. This makes for some fantastic displays, and shows off a great selection of crafts, including ceramics, jewellery, paintings, sculpture and more. I love setting up exhibitions, but never seem to get the chance these days. However, this year I’ve been graced with a slightly larger space to use, so my creativity will be tested to the full!

Over the next week the town will spring to life, as people flood in for ‘windows week’. There will be a festival atmosphere during the first weekend, including theatrical performances and a craft fair in the market hall. Local celebrity, Melvyn Bragg will be attending and launching his latest book.

The whole event has been masterminded by my ex art teacher Brian Campbell. Brian is an accomplished local artist and worked hard to open Wigton’s fountain gallery last year. This has proved to be a great success and now displays work by many local craftspeople.
